Finding Your Style When You Love Too Many Things
EPISODE 108
I love too many things! How will I ever find my art style? Sound familiar? Well, you are not alone. This week we answer a listener question and tackle this dilemma.
It brings up many lines of thought, from whether you need a style at all, right through to the practical steps you can take to find one.
We also look at the factors that can influence your style choices. Things like space, time, personality, profitability, and my favourite, pure passion!
Plus, we’ve put together a great list of tips from artists that we’ve interviewed on the podcast.
If you have been grappling with your art style, you won’t want to miss this one!
A few things we talk about:
Not rushing the process! Taking time to try things and figure out what you enjoy and what works on a practical level. This is often a lengthy process of elimination!
Being able to see a style on Instagram and truly appreciate it without feeling envious.
Noticing what makes you happy when you create and the importance of passion and not only being motivated by money or trends.
Becoming deliberate about the art you are going to create, including setting time limits, removing distractions, and deciding what you will and won’t post on social media.
Finding the common thread in your work which allows you to explore different subject matter while still having a recognisable look to your art.
